Our Procedure

With our 24 hours/7 days a week capability, we are a reliable resource that you can trust in the event of an emergency or disaster. At PSI Cleaning and Restoration, Inc.® our initial focus is to determine how we can best protect and secure your personal contents from further water damage. For Water Mitigation, we:

• Evaluate/scope the affected area including damage to walls, floors and contents.
• Obtain moisture readings.
• Explain the process of mitigation.
• Extract standing water when necessary.
• Set furniture on foam blocks or foil tabs.
• Remove wet structure, when necessary. (Drywall, Carpet, Pad…)
• Dry wet structure using air movers, dehumidifiers, etc.
• Monitor area drying.
• Remove drying equipment and/or reinstall pad etc., then clean and deodorize carpet.

Sewer Damage and Contaminated Water

The mitigation procedure for sewer damage and contaminated water is similar to the procedure for water damage. However, there are extra steps needed. For this kind of mitigation, we:

• Remove everything it touches including affected drywall.
• Sanitize the affected areas.

Water Mitigation Do’s and Don’ts

Do's

• Make sure the water source is turned off. This will help contain the damage.
• Use fans to circulate the air to assist drying.
• Remove as much water as possible by extracting carpet or mopping floors.
• Wipe furniture dry to remove excess water.
• Prop up wet furniture cushions for even drying.
• Place foil tabs or foam blocks between furniture legs and wet carpet.
• Remove wet area rugs or other floor coverings.
• Move photos, paintings, and art objects to a safe, dry location.
• Open closet doors, furniture drawers, and luggage to aid in drying.
• Remove wet fabrics and dry them as soon as possible. Hang furs and leather goods to dry separately at room temperature.
• Remove books, shoes, paper goods, fabrics, potted plants, and other items which may stain wet carpet.
• Leave the heat on if the damage occurs during a cool season; use an air conditioner, if available, in the summer.
• Stay out of any rooms where the ceiling is sagging resulting from trapped water.

Don'ts

• Do not use an ordinary household vacuum to remove water.
• Do not use electrical appliances while standing on wet carpet or wet floors.
• Do not go into rooms with standing water if the electricity is still on.
• Do not lift tacked down carpet without professional help.
• Do not go near contaminated water (sewage, broken pipes and overflowing toilets).
• Do not leave colorful materials like papers, books, boxes, curtains, draperies, upholstery, pillows etc. in the wet area.
• Do not delay in calling for professional help. The longer you wait, the more severe the damage.
